Vancouver has a long been known as the mecca of skateboarding in Canada. So great, in fact, that it’s the current home and choice stomping grounds of Canadian pro skaters Rick McCrank, Tony Ferguson, and Sluggo Boyce. It definitely has something to do with the perfect combination of weather, street spots, and community that brings people from all across Canada and the world to skate our streets.
Going hand in hand with Vancouver’s affection for skateboarding is the city’s love for punk and hardcore music. Historically gaining the most support in the early 80’s, local bands like, D.O.A., The Subhumans, and the Pointed Sticks paved the way for the healthy and robust scene that we have today.
Although a skate night combined with live punk bands isn’t anything new to the city, hosting one in a large space like Venue Nightclub is. For just one night in 2013, we installed a mini ramp into the middle of Venue and invited the city to come and skate while local punk band Needles//Pins played live on stage. It was definitely a memorable sight to see a mini ramp in the middle of the dance floor one night, and a room full of people wildin out to EDM the next.
On February 25th, the divine combination returns to Venue Nightclub. This time, hardcore punk band Trash Talk will be coming up from Sacramento to soundtrack the evening live alongside DJs Cherchez and Kash Honey. Formed in 2005, Trash Talk combines modern hardcore and thrash with the aggression of its descendants, creating a sound that is at once exciting, unrelenting and entirely fresh.
Skaters set to roll through the mini ramp include sponsored skaters Chad Dickson, Mitch Donovan, Stacy Gabriel, Aiden Turtle, Brandon Cotton, Jorden Lee Murray and more!
