It’s time to party, and as usual, Blueprint LIVE is making it happen in style. Celebrating two years of integrating multi-genre live events into the landscape of BC’s music scene, the Blueprint LIVE team have put together a pretty irresistible edition of the CO:LAB showcase series – Tha Dogg Pound’s Kurupt will be playing a free show alongside his brother Roscoe at Venue on December 17.
CO:LAB is a monthly hip-hop showcase that combines many elements of hip-hop and pays homage by featuring legendary hip-hop artists alongside local up and comers. This is one way in which Blueprint LIVE builds up the local hip-hop scene and provides inspiration through the legends that are featured at each showcase. Kurupt, for example, is an artist who heavily influenced the way that hip-hop developed on the West Coast – appearing alongside Daz Dillinger on Dre’s The Chronic and Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle, Kurupt helped define the lyrical, stylistic and thematic features of 90’s classics during the G-Funk era.
Growing from his roots, Kurupt continued to take an important role in hip-hop – Dogg Food was released on Death Row Records in 1995, with Kurupt leaving the label shortly afterwards. His first solo album Kuruption! featured multiple East Coast artists including N.O.R.E. and Buckshot, allowing Kurupt to diversify the sound he’d helped develop. Kurupt formed group after group for various releases, making history with Wu Tang, Canibus, Mobb Deep and The Alchemist. After decades of feuds, label moves, reunions, albums and tours, Kurupt’s place as an innovator, a legend and a gold mine of hip-hop history has truly been solidified.
There’s something pretty special about witnessing a veteran performer like Kurupt, especially on the West Coast where his influence has been so strong. To see such a performer for free, though, is more than special, it’s point proof of the hard work and care that Blueprint LIVE puts into all their shows – whether hip-hop, EDM, folk or metal.
Blueprint LIVE has expanded the way that Vancouver interacts with music: the quality and frequency of big name acts have increased exponentially since Carlo Giusto and Malcolm Croome – the live music directors – stepped up to the plate in 2012, each man bringing with him a wealth of instinct and experience. Blueprint LIVE continually deepens relationships between artists, media, venues and fans by creating spaces that are inclusive, relevant and exciting.
Join us as we celebrate our second anniversary on December 17th at VENUE.
