Keeping it 100 with Lil Debbie

By Vanessa Krystin Wong

Fresh off the release of her new record Young B!tch, Lil Debbie’s been buzzin. Bay Area ratchet queen, Lil Debbie’s been doin’ her thing since the breakup of the infamous White Girl Mob. She just dropped a new video, rocked a set at the Cannabis Cup and keeps it 100 with us tellin’ us all about it when we caught up with her before her show in Vancouver.

First off, you just put out the video for ‘Me & U’ off Young B!tch – self directed too! What was it like directing yourself?
I mean I’ve always had a lot of input on all of my videos. None of my videos have never not been either directed or co directed by me.

Don’t Hates feels like a perfect intro to your album, full of a mixed bag of goodies from Me & You, to Fleek, Zonin and closing with Cali banger Bay 2 LA. What were you trying to do with this record compared at California Sweetheart 2?
I feel as if young bitch is more in a essence of who I am I took a little more personal time with it and really tried to show every side of who lil debbie is .. Also im just expanding my music and experimenting with sounds

Instead of the Grammys, you were at the SoCal Cannabis Cup this year. How was that and what was the best strain you’ve ever smoked?
The cup was crazy cus I’ve never been I’ve only gone to these secret Sunday sessions so for me too go was just a blessing it’s probably the highest I’ve ever been. My favorite product was the medicated bacon from marijuana munchies & the tangy crumble from my friends at Natural Lab Extracts

You played Toronto in December, Winnipeg in January, and two BC dates now. Where’s your favourite part of Canada so far? Who’s got the best crowd?
So far my favorite show was in Winnipeg but I love Toronto

I saw that your playing SXSW this year, you stoked? Who are you excited to see at SXSW?
Yes I’m excited this will be my 3rd year going and I always enjoy myself .. I’m most excited to see artists like Young Dolph, Yung Jake etc

With it already being February, we’re already a little bit into 2015. What’s next for Lil Debbie in 2015?
In 2015 the work doesn’t stop. Ever. Even when you be excited to finish a project and release that only leads to more working and recreating again.

Lil Debbie performs LIVE at Fortune Sound Club on February 27th.
