VIFF & Blueprint Events are excited to present two special RZA events. These are two separate events at different locations and each requires its own ticket.

EVENT 1: Creator Talk at The Rio Theatre from 6-7pm

Be inspired by some of the world’s leading creators and innovators as they share expertise on their craft at VIFF2018.

The multi-talented RZA is, first and foremost, a hip-hop producer and leader of the legendary group Wu-Tang Clan. Born Robert Diggs in Brownsville, Brooklyn, he was inspired by martial arts movies at a young age, and he and his fellow Clan members would later incorporate it into their music. They shook the rap world with their debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), and since then RZA has, while remaining loyal to hip-hop, moved into the film world. After scoring a number of films, he wrote and directed his own: The Man with the Iron Fists (2012). He has also acted in numerous film and TV series.

EVENT 2: Live from the 36th Chambar of Shaolin at The Orpheum Theatre from 7-10pm

RZA brings the ruckus! The award-winning musician, film director and leader of rap group Wu-Tang Clan comes to live-score the Kung-fu flick that’s been one of his biggest influences: Lau Kar-leung’s The 36th Chamber of Shaolin. Using a Wu-Tang catalog over two decades deep , he drops beats from opening scene to closing credits, amplifying the action of this martial arts classic.

Long before he was a rapper and producer, RZA was an obsessive fan of movies like Lau’s. He first saw The 36th Chamber of Shaolin on TV at the age of 12, and he’s now come full circle to combine two loves of his life: the aggressive instrumentals of hip-hop and the wild kinetics of martial arts. As you might guess, the combination is explosive–a real-time orchestration that will have your head nodding even as you can’t take your eyes off the screen. RZA has scored films before, but the achievement here is on another level. Hip-hop heads, Kung-fu film fans and anybody who wants to see some electrifying innovation, this is for you.
